PASADENA, Texas — This year, the Galveston College Island Invitational will be held a little further inland, and the San Jacinto College softball team steps in to help host the tournament. The tournament, slated for Feb. 3-5, will take place at Crenshaw Park in Pasadena. Staffing changes at Galveston College resulted in the Coyotes taking over the tournament this year.

"We wanted to be able to still play a talented group of teams, so we decided to help host," said Kelsey Walters, assistant coach for the Coyotes. Sixteen teams from across Texas and Louisiana will take to the field in this weekend-long tournament.

The Coyotes will play six games against such teams as Vernon College, Grayson College, Connors State College, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

"Our team always looks forward to a good game and starting the year without this contest just wouldn't be the same," said Kelly Saenz, head coach. "We appreciate the dedication and time Galveston College has put into formulating this tournament. We are honored to help keep this tradition alive."

All games will be played on the softball fields at Crenshaw Park.

"Thank you to Pasadena Girls Softball, who was gracious enough to offer up their fields for our use," added Walters.

The San Jac Coyotes will play the following schedule:

Feb. 3 - 12 p.m., Field 1, Vernon College

Feb. 3 - 2:30 p.m., Field 1, Grayson College

Feb. 4 - 10 a.m., Field 1, Connors State College

Feb. 4 - 3 p.m., Field 1, Jones College

Feb. 5 - 12:30 p.m., Field 4, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

Feb. 5 - 5:30 p.m., Field 3, Temple College
